About Castro Station:
The Castro Station was a Castro Gay Bar in San Francisco from 1977-1998. The Location was host to the epic heyday of the gay liberation 70's from its perch directly across from the historic theater. Its long tenure and central location saw the Castro Station as a fixture through the highs and lows late 20th century for the gay community before it became the Bar on Castro in 1998. The space continued to thrive at the apex of Castro nightlife until a building fire forced its closure in 2019. As of 2023 it is planned for reopening and restoration continues.
