About The GAF: 

In the 70's and 80's, while Jim and Tammy Faye greeted Donna Reed on their tawny Movie Colony Streets, a thriving gay scene was emerging just over the city line. In Cathedral City, a stone's throw from the Iconic Southern California Oasis, bars like the GAF (Gay As Fuck) thrived for an LA crowd of some of the most glittering stars who were closeted in Hollywood. This scene thrived into the 1980's when the AIDS epidemic forced more attention onto the now struggling gay community, ushering in a gay renaissance in the city of Palm Springs, now a true Gay Mecca out in the California Desert Sun.

In 1981 the GAF was one of two establishment in Cathedral City that were attacked with pipe bombs that destroyed their facades. While no one was injured, the ireverent spirit that defines the gay community is no better personified than in one of the bars someone tried, but could never really, destroy.
